1. Hydrogen Peroxide and Baking Soda

What You Need

  • Hydrogen peroxide
  • Baking soda
  • Dish soap
  • Soft bristle brush

How it Works

  • First spot treat a small portion of the carpet to ensure the hydrogen peroxide will not cause any damage to your carpet. If there's is no damage, proceed to the next step
  • Apply the hydrogen peroxide as much as need on the stain
  • Use the brush to scrub the area
  • Allow the hydrogen peroxide to soak into the stain for a minimum of 15 minutes
  • Rinse the area after the 15 minutes using cold water
  • Use about a drop of dish soap and a tablespoon of baking soda on the stain and scrub until the stain clears out
  • Follow up with another thorough rinse of cold water

2. Laundry Detergent and Water solution

What You Need

  • Coldwater
  • Brush
  • Clean towel

How it Works

  • Scrape off the dried blood using the brush to help loosen up the blood particles
  • Mix one tablespoon of the laundry detergent with two cups of cold water. Feel free to use your judgment to determine the amounts depending on the size of the stain
  • soak the clean towel with the detergent solution and blot the stain
  • Keep blotting until the solution is absorbed, repeat as needed until the stain clears out
  • When the stain clears, blot the area with cold water, follow up with a dry towel to dry out the area.

3. Ammonia

Suppose the above treatments don't work out for you. Using ammonia might help get the job done. Just note that you should never mix ammonia with chlorine bleach, also do not use ammonia on woolen carpets.

What You Need

  • Ammonia
  • Half a cup of warm water
  • Clean towel
  • Coldwater

How it Works

  • Mix the ammonia with the warm water
  • Soak the towel in the solution
  • Using the soaked towel, blot on the stain until the solution is completely absorbed.
  • Repeat as needed until the stain clears out
  • Soak the area with cold water and blot using a different dry towel to dry the area.

Bonus Tip

So you have used up all your elbow grease trying to get that bloodstain out, but it doesn't seem to work, which means that there's still some stain removing agent or some leftover stain residue in the carpet fibers. In this case, redo the treatments as guided in the above steps to achieve desired results.

Conclusion

A general rule of thumb before getting down to scrubbing is to ensure you work on the stain from the edges towards the center. Doing this ensures you avoid spreading the stain out further. Another essential pro tip is to rinse off and blot the remaining cleaning agent.
